Can I wear lipstick and lipgloss with Invisalign?
To my fellow make-up lovers and lipstick addicts: I have good news.
Yes, you absolutely can wear lipstick and lipgloss with Invisalign aligners!
Invisalign trays are the same as traditional braces (but infinitely more subtle/expensive/awesome). They are INSIDE your mouth. If you can wear lipstick with traditional braces, then you can damn well rock a bright red pout with your aligners in.
My experience of wearing lip products with Invisalign
I wear lip liner a lot. Most days, actually. And it's never rubbed off or transferred onto my aligners. That said, when I wear a particularly glossy lipstick or lipgloss, sometimes it's so sticky or glossy that it actually sticks to my aligners. This was a bit of a nightmare at a dinner party last week when I wore a bright pink lipstick by Kate Moss for Rimmel, and it ended up being smeared all over my aligners across my front teeth. Trés chic!
Tips and tricks for wearing lipstick when your Invisalign aligners are in
1. The finger method
Point your index finger out. Stick it into your mouth (making sure it's clean beforehand, obvy). Wrap your lips around your finger at the base like you would an ice lolly (or "popsicle", for my American homies) and slide your lips upwards. Most of the excess lipstick or lipgloss residue from your inner lips should have transferred onto your finger. I like this method the best. It's convenient (and feels a bit naughty)! Remember to wipe your finger afterwards! You don't want to be transferring lipstick from your fingers onto a pretty dress now, do ya?
2. The tissue method
Fold a tissue in half. Insert horizontally between your lips. Gently press your lips to the tissue. THIS IS CALLED "BLOTTING", MY DEAR ONES. I'm sure you knew about blotting already. But all your excess lipstick should be safely on the paper now, instead of smeared across your aligners in an ungodly manner. Huzzah!
3. Use a lip stain
Alternatively, just use a lip stain instead of lipstick when you won't have access to a mirror or tissues for blotting. Lip stains look pretty, look natural (depending on the colour), and last forever. xoxo Invisalign Girl (Just kidding. Chuck and Blair forever, though.)
